RTL announces three new lines accessible at all times for people with reduced mobility

Longueuil, June 4, 2015 – The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), Colette Éthier, is proud to announce three new lines that will be accessible at all times for people with reduced mobility.

“We are pleased to be making this announcement as part of the Semaine québécoise des personnes handicapées. In keeping with its universal accessibility development plan, the RTL is adapting three lines to be accessible at all times for people with a functional limitation, namely lines 4, 6, and 106, which serve the cities of Brossard, Longueuil and Saint-Lambert,” Ms. Éthier declared.

More specifically, lines 6 and 106 serve downtown Saint-Lambert and the Mail Champlain, whereas line 4 serves Hôpital Charles-LeMoyne and the École régionale du Vent-Nouveau. Starting August 24, each bus on these lines will have a reserved seat for people using a powered mobility aid, such as a wheelchair or a 3-wheel or 4-wheel scooter. The driver will deploy an access ramp at the front door to allow these passengers to board. This will also make getting around easier for families with strollers. Lines 4, 6, and 106 are in addition to line 74, which has been accessible to passengers with powered mobility aids since 2012.

“This announcement reflects the RTL’s desire to strive for bus service that is universally accessible to all of its clients, regardless of functional limitations. The universal RTL provides riders with the undeniable benefits of increased flexibility, freedom to travel, independence and spontaneity,” the Chairman concluded.

Once the service is introduced at the end of August, citizens can consult the website or contact Customer Service at 450-463-0131 for more information, specifically with respect to the allowable dimensions of powered mobility aids.
